WATER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

In November 2019, Steve Kolk, a hydraulic engineer with the federal Bureau of Reclamation and a member of our organization, traveled around Kyrgyzstan for two weeks as part of the United States Department of Interior's Ambassador’s Water Expert Program, a component of its International Technical Assistance Program.  For the trip he was joined by Mike Kaputa, director of the Chelan County Department of Natural Resources and also a member of our organization.  Steve had previously visited Kyrgyzstan in September of 2018 as part of a delegation from our organization, and he was interested in learning more about the country's water resources in Issyk-Kul Province for drinking water, crop irrigation, and hydropower generation.

What Steve found were water systems that often served multiple purposes and that need to be modernized and upgraded to continue to improve living standards and environmental protection, and opportunity for safe and healthy development.
